Tres Hermanos

Many of you may remember when I took a day to take photographs of a beautiful herd of longhorns for reference photos. I finally took the time to sit down and draw and paint (watercolor) those bad boys I love so much.

I can't tell you how enjoyable and how terribly frightened at the same time I felt as I painted... two strong emotions fighting within me. One that said, "go on, honey.... you can do it" and one that said, "you'll never be able to capture a good image".

Well, I'd like to tell you that the more positive voice won out. After all, I finished. But actually, the struggle still remains as I view the finished painting. But there is something I won't cheat myself from. I know I am getting closer, so close now I can almost taste it... of getting to the style or standard of painting I have the good taste for.... and truly, that inner voice is the one speaking the loudest.

I think this is wonderful - you've captured the (seemingly!) gentle giants, their movement, the light of the day - all beautifully. I'm not sure what you are seeing to criticize, but I'm glad you aren't cheating yourself of some of the satisfaction you deserve to feel! I love your giraffe as well.

And thank you for sharing your son's story - his bravery and the power of the simple act of offering his hand...

I love looking at your art work. I, too suffer from "perfectionism" and I believe many good, creative efforts will never be seen by others because I don't deem them "blog ready." The funny thing is, I love perusing my old, unedited sketch books and your blog reminds me of a sketch book. I think that's a good thing...and something I need to think about!

Thanks for the visit and comments on my site. Reading through your blog I see we have some things in common. Namely New Mexico, love of race horses and contempt for those that use God as an excuse to kill....I like the Races in the Rain piece. I'm jealous of your Ruidoso trip. I'm a collector of all things horse racing. For sale?

Right now, I am surrounded by 100 cows, some with babes and you did a wonderful job....you should be proud of yourself as these are very good....I don't see anything to criticize and think you did a very good job on their faces as well as their muscular bodies...

well done, girl!

I think this watercolor really conveys personality. I very much enjoy it.

Very well done, I'd say. I really like the one on the left.....his upturned head attitude!

You're gifted at describing your feelings about your growing abilities!

carry on doing, that's the thing we've got to do. Nothing else matters, you cannot loose that way, you can only be a winner. As the time passes you will see you collection of finished and unfinished which build your work up and improve your skills so you can paint the way you want and see it.
By then just carry on, don't be a judge, it's not your role in this life, your role is to be an artist.

btw. I love your painting, and the previous post gave me so much encouragement!! Thank you Peggy:)

thanks to all my new friends and to all my old friends for the cudos - I do feel I'm going in the right directin. I love what Anetka said about just be the artist, don't be the judge, it's not my job. So I'll just keep painting. And it will come naturally.
