I have been so inspired by others drawings, sketches, and paintings of the fall that I couldn't let this Fall of mine pass without a journal page memorializing it. And I added some poetry by one of my favorite poets: Edgar A. Guest.
I want to come to autumn with the silver in my hair,
And maybe have the children stop to look and me and stare;
I'd like to reach October free from blemish or from taint,
As splendid as a maple tree which artist love to paint.
I'd like to come to autumn, with my life work fully done
And look a little like a tree that's gleaming in the sun;
I'd like to think that I at last could come through care and tears
And be as fair to look upon as every elm appears.
But when I reach October, full contented I shall be
If those with whom I've walked through life shall still have faith in me;
Nor shall I dread the winter's frost, when brain and body tire,
If I have made my life a thing which others can admire.

I'm thinking I like that!
I like the colors . . . so autumn. It's a little surreal with the leaves being so much larger in scale than the tree, and I find that interesting.
I like the poem too.
Nice work. Isn't that the best thing about going online and meeting other artist? They make us reach inside ourselves.

Your painting is inspiring to get going on a fall painting of my own. This autumn has been absolutely spectacular in New England and the colors have not only been unbelievable, they continue to change and become even deeper and richer (and golder, if that's a word). Thanks for the lovely post; the poem and painting were so congruous.
I love the oversized leaves, the blackness of the bark (like it's just been rained upon), the way the leaf shapes mimic the points and turns in the branches .... you've really captured a maple in full glory with our heads and our eyes thrust into the middle of it - like we are children grabbing a branch and pulling it down to ourselves - beautiful!
Just a little p.s. cuz we're playing comment tag here :)
I had a lengthy answer to your last question about orca #2 - it's a couple of comments after yours :)
I love this...well done and also the poem.
I dont know if I like the tree or the poem best. Love the colors, and fall is my favorite time of yr.
Me I've stopped drawing for a bit and just lived under my couch covers. Enough time now so last night started again. Will have some posted soon. Thanks for your encouragment.

Well that was so nice! I love Edgar A. Guest and it's just so cool to see you quoting him!

Our Ohio autumn has been equally beautiful -- so many leaves have stayed on the trees right into November.
I love your painting! It is surreal, and looks impasto-ish. I think you've been picking up leaves from my yard... just a few of these richly colored ones lie there, while most of the reds still cling to the branches.
Your story is well-painted...
