Passions of an Odd Chick

Thursday, December 4, 2008

It's like one big wave hits and then another. No time for routine things. I'm leaving for Dallas today to see family. I can't wait - these are some of my favorite relatives that I haven't seen in a long time.

My camera broke. UGH! I use my camera everyday, especially blogging! And I have missed it tremendously and it doesn't seem the right time of year to replace it and it will take forever to send off for repair. Feel my pain.

I haven't been still long enough to paint or draw and I miss that too- it centers me somehow. So nothing new creatively and it seems my artist friends have been more creative than ever.

But for something old - I'm thinking about Africa these days because I was in Africa at this time last year. East Africa is one of those places that it takes a long time to process and ponder - and it leaves you with memories that wash over you like a high tide. Although it's half a world away - it's still a place I visit often in my mind. Do you have a place that you re-visit?

germany. when i was 12.

i would get up at 5am on a saturday and walk around frankfort all day long.

buying pomme frites and brochen from street vendors, visiting parks and museums, listening to the melody of the language as conversations unfolded.

without a care in the world.

i hope you have a wonderful time in dallas.

I've missed you! I hope you have a wonderful visit with your family, and that by the time you return, your camera has been mended. May you get some time for your creativity to flow, in one way or another!!I look forward to seeing and reading all about it :)
I haven't done a whole lot of traveling, and for some reason those places (though I loved them) aren't where I return, but I've moved a lot and revisit places that I've lived - the streets I walked, the restaurants I enjoyed, etc. Even with places I was SO glad to move away from (Yuma, AZ), there are spots I remember fondly!
Safe and happy travels, Karin

Thanks for visiting my blog.

And thank you for sharing these photos of Africa...they are beautiful.

I lived in Germany about 18 years ago. But I really love thinking about Italy...Florence and Venice, it was wonderful!

I've missed you too :) .... but totally understand how life happens!

I re-visit my grandmother's house in my imagination - especially when I'm trying to fall asleep. I was blessed to be able to live under her roof for about a year when I was a kid - very happy memories there!

Also - Hawaii - I have to remind myself that it's the same sun in the sky that shines here so weakly that shines there so strongly. The smell of the flowers, the softness of the air, the warm and lovely salt water, the aloha of the people. I love it there!

I had wondered about all the African animal photos. I missed your blog about that trip. You look so beautiful and happy in the photo.

I think about all my trips to other countries ...but fathom I'd be thinking Africa (a lot!) if I ever had the opportunity to visit. Africa is just a visual explosion for the artist.
Have a great visit with your family.

Oh yes. I understand the place flashback thing. I do it with the high Sonoran in New Mexico, some parts of Provence, and with a manor on the Hudson (New York), called Clermont.

Oh, I have so many places I revisit in my mind but there are a couple pf places where I felt a very deep connection, Rome and London...not sure why although not too distant generations of my family lived in England and Italy...hmm...What a nice picture of you with the children and I LOVE the big cats!
