Who done it??

This is one of the last pages of my tree journal. It is a study of a painting of a very famous artist, one of my very favorites. Can you guess who it is? Can you name the painting? Who will be first to "Name That Artist". The background of the my sketch is a little different, but everything else I tried to remain true to the original. I learn so much from painting after a really good painter. You see their shadows and techniques and nuances. And I love, love art appreciation and art history. For me, imitation is just another tool of learning.
On imitation, I would like to leave you with this quote from
Kahil -
I have learnt silence from the talkative,
Toleration from the intolerant,
and kindness from the unkind;
Yet strange,

I am ungrateful to these teachers.

I don't know enough art to have a clue about the painting.

I love the quotation though.

Okay- you've got to give me something more than ‘who is the artist'? It looks somewhat like Cezanne or Matisse...or even early Picasso before he went off into cubism. I'm assuming it's a modern artist ...but is it specific to Impressionist period? ...And what is the pinkish toned object on the right side of the goose in the elbow of the arm?

Way to go Anetka, you beat redchair who owns a gallery and is suppose to know all that stuff! Looks like University is making a smart art student out of you! I think the name of the painting is Gypsy Woman with Baby. But you were very close!

Hi Peggy,
I wish I owned a gallery- just an online gallery website. And who says I'm suppose to 'know it all.' Hey I'm just an artist. Give me a break! I was just excited to play the 'what artist' game. Just one more clue...I woulda got it. I know I would have! I had all my art history books out and ready to go!

Beautiful work and great idea to study the masters. I really like your site.

I like your copy of this painting, and Modigliani popped into my head, but I wasn't sure if I had it right, so I checked the comments and it was already there.

I should have tossed caution to the wind and guessed anyway, but it's been a long time since I've taken art history.

And thanks for visiting my blog.
